Lisa Fontaine
Hatha Yoga Teacher

Lisa is an Ananda Yoga® teacher and the leader of the Restorative Yoga Teacher Training at The Expanding Light and co-teacher for Yoga for Emotional Health. Lisa holds a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and prior to teaching yoga she enjoyed a private practice and taught developmentally delayed children and adults. Gifted with adults and children alike, before coming to Ananda Village in 1998, she taught kindergarten for two years at Ananda's Living Wisdom School in Palo Alto, California.
Today, Lisa teaches Ananda Yoga at The Expanding Light and at the South Yuba Club in Nevada City, California. She brings to her teaching both her beautiful, compassionate heart and her experience as a psychotherapist. Her restorative yoga classes are a favorite at The Expanding Light and are deeply nurturing and healing. Students leave her class feeling bathed in love and tucked in for the night.
Lisa is very enthusiastic about the benefits and joys of Restorative Yoga retreats. She says:
“In Restorative Yoga, because the body is supported by folded blankets, a person is able to maintain a yoga posture for a much longer time period – no strain is involved. As you remain in the Restorative Yoga positions for a long time, you are able to feel tensions release more deeply than ever before in the body, mind, and spirit. Beneath the tension that people have become so accustomed to, you can experience a taste of your innate, profound peace, freedom, and happiness.”
From one of Lisa’s Restorative Yoga students:
“ I absolutely loved restorative yoga because of Lisa's kind and gentle approach. It allowed me to focus on my breathing and quiet my mind. Lisa's attention to detail and her passion for the experience made me feel very supported and safe. Thank you Lisa!”
